Indian Petroglyphs Volcanic Tablelands Bishop Milky Way Eastern Sierra Fine Art Landscape Photography Mark Lilly

This particular shot of the Ancient Indian Petroglyphs on the Sky Rock was achieved on night two of a quick shotgun trip that included shooting the Milky Way over Bonsai Rock in Lake Tahoe on night one. Completely exhausted from being up all night in near freezing temperatures shooting the Milky Way over Bonsai rock and the beautiful sunrise the following morning, I made my way down US 395 towards Bishop, CA. I did not make it too far down US 395 as I had to pull over at a turn out near Topaz Lake for a quick nap. After a quick nap, my next stop would be a late morning stop at the Subway in Bishop, CA. If you are ever in Bishop, don’t be afraid to eat at the Subway on the north side of town, AMAZING. I arrived at Sky Rock and began to setup my gear when all of the sudden I heard a strange buzzing noise. The Sky Rock is a relatively well kept secret among photographers, so I slowly crept towards the front of the Sky Rock and observed 3 folks searching for the petroglyphs with a drone. It was only a matter of time before they joined me on the Sky Rock, so I stood up and asked them if they were looking for the petroglyphs. Of course they were and as it turns out they were from Oakland, CA as well. They were just passing through and were gone within an hour, allowing me to have the entire Sky Rock to myself for the long cold night ahead.
